- Apply a strip of transparent adhesive tape to the skin in the perianal area in the morning upon waking. After applying light pressure, remove the tape and adhere it to a glass slide, which must then be sent to the laboratory. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Pinworms (Enterobius vermicularis) are also known as threadworms. Female parasites, especially in the morning, deposit thousands of eggs in the perianal area, causing intense itching.
