To collect urine for urine culture:

• Equip yourself with a wide-mouth sterile container
• Urine should be collected in the morning, upon awakening
• Wash hands and external genitals thoroughly with soap and water and rinse carefully.
• Urinate by discarding the first stream and collecting part of the next stream directly into the container.
• Do not touch the edges or inside of the container with your hands or genitals
• Close the container carefully
• Urine should be delivered to the laboratory within one hour.

For urine culture, any antibiotic therapy should be interrupted at least 7 days before.
